Great, happy to provide one, however a phone or DM quote is a bit impossible. Here's why we run our fingers through your hair at the beginning of your appointment, to see what condition it is in. Only then can we provide you with an exact service and quote. Quoting sight unseen would be like styling or colouring your hair blindfolded. This is why L.A Hair Designs offers consultations.

HAIR HISTORY

A strand of hair will say a lot about someone, but what might not be so obvious, is what you have done to it before. Were you a brunette 3 months ago and now you're platinum blonde? Your hair history is Vital knowledge to our stylists who will treat it much differently if there's a build up of colour.

The same goes if you have been using box-dye at home. We won't judge you if you have, but it's a super strong chemical about to undergo a Goldwell Colour, we will approach your appointment in a whole new way. Hair history matters.

HAIR TYPE

Usually when a new guest comes in, they have thought long and hard about their new look. It's best to temper the

excitement long enough until our certified stylists appraise your hair. Over the phone or DM is an impossible task to ask of anyone, even the most experienced stylist. Your hair may be to weak or to dry and cannot withstand your desired new look, but we always have a plan B that's close to the mark.

You also need to consider the length and thickness of your hair, and whether the new look your after is affordable on transformation day and future appointments for your upkeep.

INSPIRATION PHOTOS

Your dream-look photos inspire us as much as you. Talking to you face to face about your transformation is super important. We here, at L.A Hair Designs, can deliver any look but is it realistic and affordable. Can we transform you in one visit without damaging your hair? Can you maintain it? We can shed some light and deliver this or that but we need to see you first and assess your hair in person.

FIXING HOME HAIR JOBS: WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR SALON APPOINTMENT

Whilst we do not recommend attempting at-home hairdressing on yourself or others, we do understand circumstances that have lead you to using box dye.

We have put together some tips on what to expect from your hair salon appointment

TOP TIP: TELL THE TRUTH

The most crucial thing you can do during your first appointment with L.A Hair Designs is tell the truth on your hair history. There is absolutely no benefit to you or your hair stylist if you do not provide us with a full run-down of what you did and when, as hairdressers, we need to know key elements such as;

1. When did you apply the colour

2. What type of hair dye was it

3. What products have you been using on your hair

All of these variables will impact how we can fix your hair, particularly as some at-home colours are notoriously hard to lift from the hair without breakage.

POSSIBLE SALON OUTCOMES

If you have done an at-home dye job or haircut, you need to be prepared that while our work is magical, we cannot always "fix" an issue in just one appointment without seriously damaging your hair.

Below are three most common scenarios you may encounter during your first appointment.

WE MAY BE ABLE TO FIX IT WITHOUT MUCH ISSUE

If your at-home attempt was just a haircut, we may be able to cut some style and shape back into your hair.

In the case of at-home hair dye and your hair is still in a relatively healthy condition, we may be able to correct the colour without further damage.

IT MAY TAKE TIME TO CORRECT

Whether you were trying to hide your regrowth, banish some grey hair or just give yourself a new look, adding strong permanent dyes or bleach to your hair without education around the hair colouring process can result in patchy,

uneven damaged hair.

Therefore you need to be prepared that an at-home experiment with hair dye may mean that you require full colour correction services. Colour correction services are LONG appointments, especially when dealing with uneven box dye, as even the best hairdresser in the world needs to correct sections of your hair bit by bit. And even with the utmost care taken with your hair, box dye does some funny things to the structure and appearance of your hair, which can make your hair unpredictable as we try to lift the colour.

YOU MAY NOT LIKE THE ANSWER

Box dyes and off the shelf supermarket shampoo and conditioners can leave the hair extremely damaged and broken. When hair has become damaged beyond a certain point, undertaking colour correction (such as lightening the box dye brown/black/red hair) could lead to your hair breaking off in clumps right before your eyes.

We assess each guest's hair on a case-by- case basis, and we may advise you that we cannot lighten your hair at all or the best we can do is an intense hair treatment to begin to repair the hair structure first. Maybe you haven't managed to book in for your well overdue hair appointment and the temptation of the supermarket box dye on special is just to tempting. Whatever the reason, many ladies find themselves reaching for the box dye to dye their own hair instead of visiting the hair salon. While buying and applying the box dye seems harmless enough, you should be aware of all the problems that can come with that cheap, easy fix.

BOX DYE ISNT "ONE SIZE FITS ALL"

HAPPY 5TH BIRTHDAY TO US

We celebrated our 5th birthday in May and held an intimate party for all our staff, family and friends.

We are so proud of how far we have come in just 5 years. We have built not 1 but 2 salons, starting in a tiny 45sqm salon May 2017, located in The Middle Ridge Village. We quickly became a force to be reckoned with, including our quality service, expert staff and high-end products that we found another bigger 100sqm space at The Range Shopping Centre, which is now the permanent home of L.A Hair Designs.

We had a vision for The Range Shopping Centre space for over 10 years and to acquire this space, was an absolute dream come true.

We demolished the old run down salon that was there, and completely rebuilt the gorgeous new L.A Hair Designs that you all know and love.

Thank you so much to all our loyal guests who followed us from Middle Ridge and to all our new guests that have found us at our new gorgeous location at The Range Shopping Centre . We have a super special for you all who visit during our birthday month, our way of saying THANK YOU!

WHAT IS YOUR FACE SHAPE

The key to a fantastic haircut is finding one that gives the illusion of having a long face, so it's important to first figure out what shape your face has:

Oval - a curved, eclipsed shape similar to an egg
Square - a boxy shape with a similar width forehead and strong jawline
Round - An evenly circular face with no sharp edges

Colour Correction Process

There have been a huge amount of colour correction services and big colour changes walking through our doors for the last 6 months

Understandably, many people don't realise the amount of work, time and cost involved in this. Below are some key points that we would love to share with you if you are considering a huge change or fixing a bad colour job.

The very first thing we ask is for you to come into salon for a complimentary consultation. This can take 15-20 minutes and may even involve taking a small sample of your hair to colour test....

Be prepared for a long appointment and multiple visits before you reach your desired look.....

GOING LIGHTER

Generally with long hair, there are multiple layers of colour build up over each other, these all need to be removed and unfortunately as your hair is longer, it is older and more fragile.
Box dye and henna are the hardest to remove
If you were once a natural blonde under all that colour then you will still be blonde, and therefore your hair is more fragile
Red colour will NEVER be removed in one visit, nor will black (salons claiming to do this are editing their photos and tells a whole different story)
Different colour applications need different dye removers
We will need to remove as much colour as possible before you even start to lighten the hair with lightener
We always use a bond reconstructor in your hair, our Redken lightener is exactly that, lightener with built-in bonder
Always have a colour correction done at a professional salon like L.A Hair Designs
Never colour your hair at home
Your hair will need professional treatments eg - Kérastase rituals that provides strength, vitality and nutrition
